Photo 28 Mar Reading, 10 x 8 inch oil on panel painting by George C. Clark    AVAILABLE
Reading is one of four small pieces I will have for sale at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts’ one day Spring Original Art Sale held next Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 11am to 4pm.  The Academy is located at 1012 North Dearborn in Chicago.  There will be hundreds of pieces of original art in many mediums to chose from, none priced higher than $300.
Reading is from a series of paintings I call the “White Room” paintings.  I only work on this series with models I am employing on a regular basis at my home studio, which has white walls.  I cover the floor with a white sheet and set up a 25 minute pose with my model nude or wearing a single garment (I’ve used a blue headscarf, a black vest, and a panne velvet bathrobe), and minimal props or furniture, in this case a book and a big throw pillow.  I paint as fast as I can for 25 minutes, then we take a 5 minute break and we do a different pose or poses for the next 25 minutes.  I might have my model do the “white room” pose again for 25 more minutes later in the session, but I never work than 50 minutes on one of these paintings on any given day.  Then I will have her do the pose again the next time we work together, if necessary, but not for more than two 25 minute periods per day.  These paintings are mostly small in scale.  Some I finish in 2 or three 25 minute sittings, some have taken 5 or 6.  Working this way is easier on my models, and it gives me the opportunity to do an underpainting the first day which will have dried by the next time I work on it so that I can make corrections by wiping away wet paint if I need to without destroying the previous session’s work.
